Early Bird Updates: Pain in the neck, literally

June 11, 2012

Early bird update this morning. Woke up around 4 am and couldn’t sleep. It was one of those times when my body just decided to think I had slept enough.  Oh well it has allowed me to attempt to play catch up on writing. This past weekend was not one of my better ones. Friday was a good day, I was on track with my word count (even ahead as I had been for the last few days of last week.) I had made plans to go to a fiber festival this weekend. It has been on my calendar since February (I will never again underestimate the power of fiber to motivate a person, hello last few months of classes.) Unfortunately a wrench was thrown into our plans, this wrench came via my neck. Saturday morning I woke up with excruciating neck pain. I could barely get out of bed, let alone turn my head to the right. Thanks to some ice and ibuprofen it was taken down to a level five on the pain scale (out of 5, with 1 being no issue and 5 being I can’t turn my head much owww pain.) By Saturday evening I was finally able to turn ever so slightly without wanting to scream, but I knew I had to resign myself to not going to the fiber festival. Sunday morning dawned bright and clear and I found myself once again in neck pain, although significantly less than before (thank goodness.) I am glad we didn’t go as my neck still ended up hurting through the day, but can I just say bummer!

With all the pain, I ended up slacking more than a little bit on my word count and was struggling to meet yesterday’s quota. Around the time of the Mad Men season finale was on I resigned myself to missing my mark for the first time since the competition. I have finally caught up to yesterday’s quota this morning and have about 1,667 words left to break even with today’s mark. I am still having a bit of pain still, but it is a lot less than the last two days. My plans for today are to catch up on writing and attempt to relax. Hope everyone else’s weekend was a significantly better than mine.
