More Spinning

April 30, 2013

The spinning continues, no surprise. I actually finished this one last week, but was sidetracked with the gift making. I ended up using the last little bit of my Wool of the Andes (WOTA) fiber left over from my “Falling for Handspun Scarf” The remaining two colors were Salsa Heather, Persimmion Heather. I didn’t exactly measure the remaining bits, but I believe it was less than 2 oz. each.

I ended up 2 plying them, in an effort to gain some yardage.

20130425_103523Which worked brilliantly. It clocked in at 246 yds. The photos make it seem a bit more red than it is in real life.

20130425_103536It might be well suited to the Autumn Memories color I spun up a few weeks ago, but who knows. I am excited at the yardage alone.

Have you ever been surprised at how much yardage you can get?

  1. Beautiful spinning and such a soft pretty color 🙂

  2. That’s great! I’m going to two ply 2 four ounce braids and I’m hoping to get 450-600 yds. I’m spinning pretty thin and I’m almost done spinning the first 4 ounce braid of my Three Waters Farm in colorway New House.

    • I think you should be able to hit that yardage, I only recently came back 2ply and am amazed at the yardage I can hit with such small amounts.

      • Thanks, I hope so. I’ll post an update soon. Yeah, I’ve been Navajo/chain plying as if it were my job! Lol. I miss the “barber pole”!
